Town Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Town Boaid was hold on Monday, November ,11th. Present: Messes Geo. W. Rogers (chairman), A. O’Brien, D. McGregor, H. H. Seccombe, and J. Stewart. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From A. H. Moore, re maintenance of dividing fence between his property and pound paddock. Resolved, That in accordance with understanding arrived at when new fence was erected, that the Board relieves Mr Moore from any liability to effect repairs to the fence then erected. From the Secretary Opunake Brass Band, notifying their intention of handing over the instruments to the custody of the Board ; also any available funds to be held in trust for the benefit of any similar organisation in the future. From Justice Department, stating that the hall would not be required in future, as the department was making arrangements for the use of the Foresters’ Hall for Court purposes. From Taranaki County Council, stating its willingness to hand over control of the main road from date of letter. Resolved, That the Council be written to for further information. A petition from M. Dillon and others was received, making a complaint against the Town Board’s ranger. Resolved, That the Board has no jurisdiction, as the matters complained of occurred outside the town boundary. Mr McGregor asked why the piano at present in the hall had not been vested in the Board. Mr Rogers said the piano was procured for the purpose of paying off a debt for harbor survey, and until that was paid off it should not be vested in the Board. Mi McGregor said when the piano was procured it was on the understanding that as soon as it was paid for it should become the property of the Board. The clerk, who was one of the guarantors for harbor survey fund, explained that a joint committee undertook by means of entertainments to procure a piano for the hall and to pay off the debt on account of survey. When, however,, there was sufficient money in hand to liquidate the debt on the piano the whole of the funds were used for that purpose and then the entertainments were dropped.. Resolved, That tenders be dealt with on Wednesday at noon. Resolved, That that the Public Trustee be written to calling upon him to have gorse removed from the native lands in the tqwnship. The Chairman gave notice of motion that at the next meeting of the Board a rate of £d in the £ be struck. The following accounts were passed for payment: Elgar, 3s ; W. Ebbett, 6s; C. F. McGregor 4s 6d.
