Pungarehu Racing Club.
. The annual meeting of the above club was held in the Pungarehu School on Monday evening. Mr J. Maxwell occupied the chair ; tbe other members present being Messrs E. Hansen, R. Wood?, W. Woods, G. Wells, W. Harvey, M. Aylward, T. Julian, J. Simpson, B. B. E. Layard, M. J. Wallensteiu, T. Hickman, W. Duggan, and H. Corbett, hon secretary and treasurer. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The hon secretary submitted the balance-sheet, which was passed, and showed the club to be in a satisfactory position, financially. It was proposed by Mr E. Hansen, and seconded by Mr W. Harvey, That the club hold a race meeting this season, without a totalisator, subject to the approval of the Metropolitan Club.
Mr Layard moved, as an amendment, That the club be wound up, and the cash in hand go towards prizes for an athletic meeting. Mr Corbett seconded the amendment pro forma, but it failed to get any support, and the original motion was carried.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow :—President: Mr M. Fleming ; Vice-President: Mr B. B. E. Layard; Judge: Mr A. Bayley; Starter : Mr A. T. Wills ; Clerk of the Course: Mr G. Wells; Clerk of the Scales :Mr J. Maxwell; Handicapper: Mr R. G. Pardy; Hon Secretary and Treasurer: Mr H. Corbett; Stewards : Messrs J. Caddy, W. Harvey, G. Wells, M. J. Wallenstein, Te Whetu, J. Simpson, E. Hansen, W. Duggan, M. Avlward, F. Webb, A. O'Donnell, and T. W. Corbett. It was arranged that the committee meet at an early date to draw up a programme and- fix the date for the meeting. A vote of thauks to the secretary for his services during the past year, and the usual compliment to the chair brought the meeting to a close.
