Egrnont Farmers’ Union (Ltd.) Report. Hawera, October 24. We had a fair entry of cattle at Manaia, on Wednesday, the 23rd inst. There was a good attendance and brisk bidding, so that nearly everything entered changed hands before leaving the yards. We quote—3-year steers, £2 18s to £3 14s ; 2 to 24-year steers, £2 Is to £2 17s; 12 to 18-month steers, £1 17s ; heifers, £2 IGs to £3 10s; springers, £5 10s; cows and calves, £3 7s Gd. Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co.’s Stock Report. At Eltham, on 22nd inst., there was a good entry of cattle most of which met a fair market.

At Hawera, on 24th, we had a large muster of both cattle and sheep. With two exceptions everything was disposed of at prices slightly in advance of those ruling lately. We quote : At Eltham —Cows and young calves, £3 to £310; 18 month to 2-year steers, £2 9s to £2 14s; 18-month heifeis, 35s to £2 5s ; yearlings, 30s to £2 ; 2-year steers, £2 15s to £2 17s store cows, £2 12s Gd to £3 ; weaners, 22s 6d to 31s ; springers, £4 to £4 IGs. At Hawera —2 year steers, £2 10s 6d to £3 2s ; 2 to steers, £3 7s Gd to £3 10s ; 8-year bullocks, £4 Gs to £4 8s ; fat bullocks, light weights, £6; 18-montb to 2-year heifers, £2 5s to £2 11s; store-oows, £2 15s to £3 ; calves, 14s to 17s ; weaners, 22s to 28s Gd ; yearlings, 38s Gd to and calves, £3 2s Gd to £3 10s; springers, £3 15s to £4 10s ; dairy cows, £5 to £8 2s Gd. Sheep - Hoggets, 8s lOd to 10s Gd; 4 tooth ewes and lambs, 11s 3d; 4 tooth wethers, 10s to 11s 7d ; wethers and maiden-ewes, 10s 7d to 11s Gd ; shorn sheep, fat, 9s ; cull hoggets, 4s. Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. New Plymouth, October 24. Cattle—At Rahotu on Wednesday, the yards were crowded, not a third of the number being advertised. There was a good attendance, but buyers were slow to operate, and at the commencement of the sale pen after pen was passed in. Later on, however, things brightened up, and a good many lines were sold at fairly satisfactory prices, yearlings being most in demand, I quote—Calves, 23s to 255; yearlings, 26s Gd to 34s ; 18-month mixed, 38s ; store cows, £1 17s Gd to £2 10s ; springing do., £3 12s to £4 10s ; fat do., £3 15s to £4 ; heifers, in calf, £2 ss; springers, £3 15s. Fat sheep, 6s Gd ; ewes and lambs, 11s Bd.

Messrs Budge and Good’s Report. There has been a fall in price of young cattle from 5s 8d to 10s a head ; in fact, calves and yearlings have become almost unsaleable. There is still a demand for grown store bullocks and empty cows for the fattening paddock. For dairy cows there is slill keen competition for anything of good quality. At Otakeho, on 12th instant a large entry of stock came forward. We quote—Fat light steers, £5 7s Gd ; well-grown forward 3£ to 4-year bullocks, £5 7s 6d ; 3-year steers, £4 15s; 24-year steers, £3 10s to £4 ; 18month steers, £2 10s 6d to £2 14s ; yearling steers, 42s Gd; yearling heifers, 84s to 37s Gd ; calves, 20s to 28s Gd ; store cows, 55 to 60s ; springing heifers, £2 13s Gd to £3 12s Gd ; fat cows, £4 to £4 10 ; fat ewes 13s 4d. At Kaponga, on 18th instant the yards were crowded with cattle, and bidding was very slow. We quote—-3-pear bullocks, £4 8s ; 2-year steers, £2 19s ; 12 to 18-month steers, 45s to 48s 6d ; yearling steers, 86s; mixed yearlings, 28s Gd; calves, 17s Gd to 24s ; store cows, £2 12s Gd to £3 3s ; empty heifers, £2 Gs; springing heifers, £3 10s to £5 10s ; fat cows, £4. At Manaia, on the 21st instant 34 year steers, £4 15s ; 3-year steers, £4 155:,3-year steers, £4 4s; 20-month steers, £2 IBs Gd to £l4; 2-year steers, £3 3s Gd ; store cows, £2 10s to £2 17s Gd ; fresh condition cows, £3 3s to £8 7s Gd; springers, up to £2 17s Gd ; yearlings, £1 9s ; fat cows, £3 10s to £4 15s ; fat ewes, shorn, Bs.

New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Limited. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report at Canterbury : —Fat cattle—A small entry, the quality generally being only medium, the price for lOOlbs being about equal to last quotation. Steers sold at from £G to £7 10s ; heifers, £5 5s to £7 ss. Store cattle—A fairly large entry ; business slightly better. Dairy cattle show no alteration.—Pigs —small entry, prices firm at about 3d per lb. Fat lambs—A somewhat smaller entry, all of which sold at better rates than last sale, 13s 3d being the top price for the day. Fat sheep— The smallest entry for some time past; in fact, the supply barely equal to trade requirements, consequently prices show an improvement. Best crossbred wethers to 21s 9d ; freezers, 16s to 18s 6d ; crossbred ewes, 14s to 18s ; merino wethers, 13s 9d to 14s 6d ; prime ditto, 19s Gd to 17s 6d. Since last report we have had a good rain in almost every part of the province. Sydney, October 25. Wheat, prime milling, nominal; chick, 3s Gd to 3s 7d ; -flour, roller, £8 10s to £8 15s ; oats, firmer, prime, 2s 7d; maize, prime 2s 9d; potatoes. Circulars, £3 15s ; New Zealand, £3 7s Gd ; onions, £3 10s to £8 12s Gd ; butter, factory, lid to Is ; dairy, lOd ; cheese, firm, 7d to 74d, Melbourne, October 55, Wheat, very firm, small sales up to 3s 3£d, but holders now decline anything below 3$ 2d.
