The Dean Case.
DEAN SENTENCED TO FOURTEEN YEARS. Sydney, October 2G. Dean has been found guilty of perjury. Prisoner stated that he had no recollection of, having made a confession and that his original statement of never handling poison was absolutely true. Whatever he did say in the alleged conversation was the result of being completely broken down, as he was dazed and stupefied. Dean added that he might also have made it in a spirit of vengeance against Meagher. The Judge offered the prisoner a chance to go in the witness-box, but he declined. Sentence has been deferred. Later. Dean was found guilty on both charges of perjury, and was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on the first charge, and fourteen years on the second charge, the sentences to be concurrent. Prisoner was cool and collected, and said, “ Thank you, your Honor,” when the Judge passed sentence. The conspiracy trials have been adjourned until Tuesday.
