Mr Newton King's Weekly Report, Cattle.—At Stratford, on Tuesday, I had a very dull sale. The yards were well filled, mostly with young stock, and these, with the exception of one small pen, were of very indifferent quality. Bidding from the start was very dull, pen after pen being passed in, and though a good many lines were ultimately quitted either at the hammer or privately, prices were low, and sales very difficult to effect. Dairy cows, close to calving, and of good quality, made fair prices. Small calves made 15s to 22s ; good do, 25s to 28s ; yearlings, 29s to 32s 6d; 18month heifers, 45s to 48s ; springers, £3 15s to £4 3s ; store cows, £2 to £2 12s; springers, £3 to £3 23 6d ; 15 to 18-month steers, 39s to 56s ; 2 to 2byear steers, 50s to 54s 6d. There was a fair attendance at Mr W. Cottier's clearing sale on Wednesday, but the sale was slow on account of the cattle being in such very low condition. Any in milk or near calving made fair prices, but the backward ones were passed. There was a full muster of stock at Waiwakaiho on Thursday, but bidding was dull and prices low. Calves were much about last sale rates, and empty cows a bit better; all other classes hard to quit, especially 18-month steers and upward. Calves made 13s to 235; yearling 3,25 sto 345; 18month, £2 5s to £2 10s ; 2-year sfeers and over, £3 10s to £3 15s ; empty cows, £2 13s to £2 19s; heifers, springing, to £4 10s ; cows, to £5 10s ; cows and calves, £2 15s to £3 8s 6d. Messrs Budge and Good's Report. At R. O. Hendy'3 clearing sale there was a large attendance, cows bringing high prices, the highest being £l2, bought by Mr C. E. Major.
