Commercial.

Mr Newton King's Weekly Report On Monday at Bell Block, the clearing sale on account of the trustees in the late Mrs Hoby's estate, attracted a large attendance of the public. The cows, which were a nice lot, hardly realised up to expectations. Horses and other stock made fair prices. Nineteen cows averaged £6 2s 61. Jersey heifers, springing, £4 7s ; yearlings, 26s Gd ; express horses, £l4 53 to £lB ; trap horse, £l2. Furniture and sundries made satisfactory rates. At Waitara, on Weduesday, I held a sale of dairy stock under bill of sale. The cows were a very satisfactory lot, and were mostly passed, prices offered not being sufficient to cover amount required. A few young cattle sold at ruiing rates. At Stony River, on Wednesday, the yards were crowded with all classes of stock, and buyers were plentiful. Young cattle were all well competed for, and made good prices. Dairy cattle were not so much in request, though Mr Carpenter's dairy were a good lot, a 3 well as smaller lots which came forward. Only young cows close to calving were at all saleable, anything at all aged meeting with little or no competition. .1 quote calves—lis to 255; yearlings, 303 to 38s; 18month steers, £2 103 6d; 2-year heifers, £2 7s 6d; springing do., £3 10s to £3 14s ; fat do., £4 ; store cows, £1 Is to £2 12s Gd ; good young cows, early calvers, £5 to £6 ss. I had an exceptionally large attendance at Messrs J. and E. Morgan's sale at Midhurst, on Thursday. Horses, carts, &c, made very good prices. _ The cows were undoubtedly good strains of Jersey-Ayrshire, but they were very backward and in low condition. They, however, made full rates considering these defects, but had they been springing they would have had a roaring sale, buyers being very numerous. Tamai Prince, the Ayrshire bull made £2O. Mr W. Matthew's clearing sale, at Eltham, on Tuesday, was fairly attended, but owing to the absence of any yards to sell in, the Jersey-Ayr-shire cows were not seen to advantage, and a number being very backward, aud some emptv, prices were not high, the other dairy cattle sold at average rates. Horses and traps, &c, sold exceptionally well. Springers made £5 to £7 ss; backward calvers, £3 5s to £5 2s 63.

Egmont Farmers' Union (Ltd.) Report.

Hawera, September 12. We had a fair entry of stock at Okaiawa, on Thursday, sth inst. Our Manaia sale, which was held on 11th inst., was only a small one, as all the cattle advertised did not come forward, though the lines offered comprised some really good forward steers. Demand was slack throughout, and not a great deal of business was done. We quote—lß month to 2-year steers, £2 10s ; cows, £2 13s 6d to £3 5s ; yearlings, £1 10s. During the past few day 3 we have been successful in placing some large lines of fat stock privately.
