Licensing Committee.
The usual quarterly meeting of the Egmont Licensing Committee was held in Stratford on Friday. There were present —Messrs Mae Kay (chairman), Monkhouse, Browu, Hughes, Mcßae, Lambie, and Heslop. Constables O'Donovan, Clerk of the Court, and Ryan appeared for the police. The police report was received and considered most satisfactory. FIRK ESCAPES. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Heslop, seconded by Mr Monkhouse, That it be a recommendation to the police to see that all licensed premises be provided with external staircases as means of escape in case of fire,
and that each upstair b clr torn vvinduw be p:o\id('<! with a knotted icpe, properly secured, the knots to be not more than 18 inches aput, and tie ropo to be 1 f sufficient length to reach the ground. NIGHT WATCHMAN. On the motion Qf Mr Monkhouse, seconded by Mr Lambie, it was resolved that the following recommendation he submitted to the Government, That it be a recommendation to the Government to amend the Licensing Act iu the direction of making it compulsory for all licensed houses accomodating over a certain number of lodgers to maintain a night watchman on the premises as a protection in case of fire. TRANSFERS. The following transfers were granted. J. Rut son to A. Barns, Empire Hotel, Stratford, (conditionally on production of certificate from a Stipendary Magistrate). D. K. Leslie to W. H. Mac Kay, Okiawa Hotel. R. H. Campbell to J. H. Bourne, Toko Hotel. J. J. Howard to M. Franklvn, Manaia Hotel. Mr Lusk appeared for all of the above applicants. This being all the business before the Court it adjourned. —Egmont Post.
