Serious Accident.
Yesterday afternoon when Messrs \V. and J. Dudley and H. Mann were getting gravel in a pit at the Mangahume, a fall from the face of the pit came in, burying Mr W. Dudley up to the neck. Mr J. Dudley was thrown back against a large boulder, and covered up to the waist, being forced into a sitting posture by the weight of metal on him.
Messrs McHannigan and B. Harrison were working at the bridge, and when they knocked off at five o’clock waited a few minutes for Dudley’s dray to come along. Eventually they went to the pit, where they found a couple of hands engaged digging them out. Mr W. Dudley had his legs considerably bruised, as some heavy stones had /alien in on them, but other than this it is not thought he has suffered any further injury. Mr J. Dudley does not appear to have any bones broken, but it is feared that he is injured severely internally. We trust it will prove loss serious than anticipated, and that they will soon have recovered their usual health.
