Mr Knott's Lecture.

It will be seen from an advertisement that Mr Knott is to give one of his grand entertainments in the Town Hall on " Wednesday next. He has just finished a successful season in New Plymouth. In speaking of the entertainment the Taranaki News of Tuesday last states :—Another large audience assembled in the Alexandra Hall on Monday night to listen to the lecture delivered by Mr Knott, the well-known temperance advocate " Ten Nights in a Bar-room " was the title of the subject chosen, and was dealt with in a manner that was highly impressive and interesting. Mr Knott is an earnest and fluent speaker. His discourse was at times humorous, and at others pathetic, while at the same time the attention of the audience never flagged. The views with which he illustrated his lecture were extremely good ; in fact so realistic were some of them that one could almost fancy he was looking at the original scenes and figures. Especially pretty and pathetic was the picture of the little girl entreating her father to leave the public house to go home, the song " Father, Dear Father Come Home," bejng sung by some one behind the scenes with siderable effect. The audience frequently testified their appreciation by loud applause, and it seemed evident that all present left the building well pleased with the instructive and interesting entertainment provided.
