The Eifle Club held a competition on Saturday for the cruet presented presented by Mr W. C. Phillips. The scene of operations was the new range, which is situated partly on Mr McGloin's place aud partly on Mr Morrison's, and runs in a direction pretty near north and south. There was some very fair shooting done, too, the most noticeable score being that of W. C. Phillips—2l at 200, 25 (the possible) at 500, and 20 at GOO yards. J. Lusk made only one point less. Appended are the scores :

The Debating Club held its' usual fortnightly meeting on Saturday evening. Several letters to the " Journal " were read, and as there was a very small attendance, it was resolved to see if some entertainment could be got up as a wind-up for the season — to take place about the time of the next meeting. The weather of late has been fine and dry, with perhaps just a little too much of cold, drying from the sou no ! I mean Opunake direction. August 19th.
