A Trip to Coolgardie.

Mr Malcolm Stevenson sends the following account of his trip to Coolgardie, which will be of interest to his friends, and form a guide for any adventurous spirits who may feel inclined to try their luck there : ' “ Arrived at Albany on June 20th, and left at 6 30 with mail train for Southern Cross; arrived at Northam on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock after travelling all night, doing 280 miles. We then left Northam, after having breakfast, for Southern Cross, a distance of 180 miles, arriving there at 10 o’clock at night. We left Southern Cross for Coolgardie on Saturday morning with a four-horse team, going six miles that day. Camped at the bank, and had tea on “ boiled dog,” better known as tinned meat. There were 50 teams in all camped together. Put blankets down on ground and turned in under them. Made a start on Sunday morning and did six miles for the day. Left the teams on Monday morning to carry our swags. Got as far as Government dams, a hole-100 feet square and 40 feet deep, with plenty of water. There is also a store here, and we camped for dinner. Left for next watering place, 10 miles farther, and arrived at sundown. There is plenty of water there, called the Snake Holes. There is also a store and a hotel. Ten were camped there for the night. On Tuesday morning we had breakfast, travelled all day, and arrived at Calwage hotel, store and bakery, and Government dams, meeting a team of 40 camels. Went on to Boro, where there is plenty of fresh water and a store. On Wednesday came to half-way house, hotel and stores, having come over the sand desert, 18 miles, and arrived at Woolgangie, 75 miles from Southern Cross stores and hotel. Left Woolgaugie, and arrived at Bull Bull, where we camped for the night—Thursday. On Friday morning, after having breakfast, we travelled on for 16 miles, coming to a hotel, stores and bakers, being 21 miles off Coolgardie. We camped there for the night, and arrived at Coolgardie on Saturday morning, after doing over 116 miles.”
