Mr Newton King's Weekly Report. New Plymouth, July 26. At Stratford, on Tuesday, the yards were well filled, and the attendance was very large. Bidding, however, was not brisk, the recent frost having completed the work of the preceding spell of rough weather, cb-Jiplaints of scarcity of feed being Mitd on all sides. Good yearlings and empty heifers were in most demand, but weaners or backward springers met with little euquiry. I quote: Calves, 15s 6d to £1 ss, yearlings, £1 9s to £2; 18-month steers, £2 7s; 2 to do, £2 12s 6d to £2 16s 6d ; 15 to 18-month heifers, £2 to £2 ss; do, in calf, £2 13s ; springers, £4 2s 6d ; store cows, £2 15s ; springiug do, £4 5s to £4 7s 6d. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was rather a muster of stock. Bidding was brisk for most lines, good strong calves to yearlings being most in demand, and all/of this class sold well. Weaner 3 yaiade lis to 16s; calves,'£l Os 6d/to £1 7s ; yearlings, £1 12s 6d to £2; 2*-year, £3 5s Gd ; COWS ■ and calves, £3 7s ; springing heifers. £3 9s to £4 ss; springing cows, £4 5s to i£6 ; old ewes, 3s 6d; fat do, 4s 9d; fat sheep, 9s to 9s 3d. Egmont Farmers' Union (td&i) Report. Hawera, July 25. We had a larger entry-of cattle than was anticipated at Stratford, on Friday, the 19th instant, though theywere mostly young stock of the dairy class. Bidding was fairly brisk, but
the reserves being higher than many of the would-be purchasers were prepared to give, not a great deal of business was transacted at the hammer, though the bulk of the stock changed hands before leaving the yards. We quote: Working bullocks, £6 10s; 2-year steers, £2 5s to £2 10s; dairy cows and heifers, £3 7s 6d to £5 ; store cows, £2 14s to £3 Is Cd ; 2-year heifers, £2 5s to £3 ; weaners, mixed sexes, £1 Is 6d to £1 7s 6d. Ou* Hawera sale was held on Wednesday, the 24th instant, and though the full entry of fat stock was yarded some other lines were prevented from coming in through the bad state of the roads. Considering the wet day the attendance was very good, some buyers from outside the district being amongst the number. Bidding for fat stock was slow at the hammer, in fact, all lines were passed in, not reaching vendors' reserves, but were afterwards placed with the exception of two lines at slightly under the reserves. For store and young stock bidding was fairly brisk, and in most cases owners' reserves were reached. We auote; Fat bullocks; £6 to £6 14s; forward bullocks, £4 16s to £5 10s; 2 to 2|-year steers, £3 6s 6d to £4 Is; 18-month to 2-year steers, £2 13s to £3 73 6d; dairy cows and" heifers, £3 3s to £3 15s; 2-year heifers, £2 103 to £3; weaners, £1 2s to £1 63.
