Chilled Meat Experiment.
The Agent-General reports on the Gothic’s chilled beef that the excellence of its condition is beyond all question. It is of capital color, perfectly dry and juicy, and has the appearance of freshly killed meat. / Dealers would scarcely believe the beef had not been frozen, though there is no doubt it was not, and no beef was ever lauded before in such prime condition. The dressing, however, is not up to the mark, and he was assured that this makes a difference of •id per lb. The price realised at first sales, s£d, is 2i more than the price of frozen beef. With regard to the meat trade generally, there was a marked improvement, which will probably be maintained for the rest of the season. Sir W. B. Perceval adds it is undoubted that a considerable quantity of inferior New Zealand mutton has latterly been put on the, market, thus tending to depress all classes of frozen meat.' .
