RAHOTU.
(Our own Correspondent.) On Saturday the second contest for Mr McGuire’s Egmont Cup took place. The weather’was"slightly better than the average experienced on firing days, but the shooting was not q,bove the average. The cup was won by Mr F. Phillips. With practice this member will be heard from further. He at present holds both Mr W. C. Phillips’ trophy and the above cup, have got one “ leg in ” for each. Appended are the scores :
In the evening the annual general meeting of the Kifle Club was held in tjhe hall. There about fifteen members present. Lusk was in the chair. The minutes of the last annual general meeting, held July 7th, 1894, and also of a special general meeting held May 24th, 1895, were read and confirmed. The chairman then read the report
of the club’s doings fi r the year just past. The secretary read the balancesheet, but explained that he Lad been unable to see the auditors to get the accounts audited. The balance-sheet showed that the club was in a very satisfactory position. It was resolved that the report and balance-sheet as read be received, and adopted at a future meeting after the secretary had the accounts audited. At this stage Mr Morrison said he considered that a vote of thanks should be passed to the members of the teams who had upheld the honor and dignity of the club when competing with other clubs’ teams. Mr McGullum said he considered the captain and secretary, and also the handicupper, should he accorded a vote of thanks, and hoped the same would be recorded in the minutes of the club.
_ The captain and secretary responded. The election of officers was proceeded with. The names of those elected were—Patron, Mr F. McGuire ; President, Mr M. J. Macßeynolds; Vice-Presidents, Messrs J. Lusk, T. McGloiu, J. McGullum, and E. Sutton ; Captain, Mr A. Morrison ; Hon. Secretary aud Treasurer, Mr E. R. Morgan ; Committee, Messrs W. C. Phillips, W. Mills, T. Bradley, A. Cullen, aud H. Barratt; auditors, Messrs A. Anderson and J. West. It was resolved, That the ranges for firiug for the Egmont Cup be altered to 300, 500 and 600yds, instead of 200, 600 aud 600yds. One or two other matters were discussed, and left for the committee to deal with, and the meeting closed. A meeting of the School Committee was held in the school-room on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs Harrison (chairman), Rotbery and Morrison. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence.—From the Education Board, intimating that the architect would superintend the lining of the master’s residence. Accounts to the amount of £4 12s fid were passed for payment. The chairman was authorised to get some necessary repairs done. This was all the business. July 14th.
