Mr Ward’s Return.
Wellington, July 10. The Hinemoa, with the Hon Mr Ward, arrived off the Heads at 10 o’clock. The weather is fine with a blue sky, with a fresh nor’-wester. The majority of tbe business houses close hall a day. The address of welcome recounts virions questions in the mission, and congratulated the Treasurer on its success. The Postal Conference, treaties with South Australia and Canada, the Pacific cable, and mail services are referred to, aud the benefits likely to be derived when adopted. Mention is also made that Mr Ward’s visit had removed much of the misconception respecting the colony. The successful issue of 8 per cent was touched upon, aud states that it has conclusively demonstrated that the Government policy of lending money to settlers at cheap rate has the approval of leading English financiers. The savings of the colony during the currency of the loan is estimated at £IOO,OOO, irrespective of interest. Mr Ward is also congratulated on securing a reduction of the management charged on inscribed stock, thereby effecting a saving of between £BO,OOO and £40,000 a year. The demonstration of welcome in his landing was very enthusiastic, and § verything passed off very successfully.
