Opunake Racing Club.

The adjourned general meeting of the above club was held at Kennedy’s Hotel on Saturday. Present: Messrs H, Wagataff, J. McKenzie, M. Carroll, J. Lambie, A. Good, A. O’Brien, W. D. Scott, J. Stewart, C. McGregor, G. Gardiner, A. Clarke, G. W. Rogers, T. Knowles, J. M. Hickey, D. Markham, E. Edmunds, M. Callander, M. J. Brennan (chairman). PERMANENT COURSE, The Hon Secretary reported what steps had been taken with regard to procuring offers for a permanent course from Messrs O’Connor, Ching. and W. Pearce. Mr 0. McGregor moved, That the course at Opua be retained. Seconded by Mr J. Stewart. An amendment was proposed by Mr Twomey, seconded by Mr J. M. Hickey, That steps be taken to obtain a course at Pihama on Mr Pearce’s property, and that the next meeting be held there. After discussion the amendment was carried by 13 to 4. Further discussion then took place as to the probability of yet obtaining a course on Mr Breach’s property. All the members agreed that if a suitable course could be obtained there on reasonable terms it would be preferable. Mr Knowles stated he had seen Mr Breach, and felt sure he would meet the club. He moved, That the meeting stand adjourned for a week to endeavor to make further arrangements with Mr Breach. Mr Stewart seconded.

After discussion this was withdrawn, and a motion passed that Mr Breach be asked to attend this meeting; Mr Breach attended and stated what terms he would probably agree to, being £4O per annum for the right to hold one meeting and have the use of the track for one month for training, this to be subject to further details being arranged. On Mr Breach retiring Mr Knowles moved, That the meeting be postponed for a week to enable an estimate of cost of making a course on Mr Breach’s to bo obtained, and also obtaining further information. The amendment was lost by 1.2 to 5, and the motion was carried on the voices. , Resolved, That an endeavor be made to lease Mr Pearce’s place as described by him in his written offer for ten years with a purchasing clause, j IT. Wagstaff-0. M cGrogor.] The following were appointed a committee to arrange with Mr Pearce, and if lease effected to arrange for sub-leasing: Messrs Brennan, Twomey, Scott, Hickey, and bon sec. Messrs J. M. Hickey, W. D. Scott, and G. W, Rogers were elected trustees.

Mr W. F. Robinson was elected a member.
