HOME AND FOREIGN. London, June 8. The Gothic has arrived at Tenneriffe with chilled beef in excellent condition. Mr Vagg is leaving for Melbourne, and Mr Henry Reynolds for New Zealand, in order to explain the scheme of each firm to sell all Australasian butter weekly by auction. Mr Vagg also suggests that a central store should be erected. The butter market is rather firmer. The sheep by the Morayshire brought sfd. Those by the Woolloomooloo were considered too old, and realised prices from s£d to 6d. The Investors’ Review points out that within 14 months prospectuses have been issued for the formation of 75 mining companies for Western Australia. The total capital of 64 of them exceeds £8,000,000. Many of them are without any prospect of paying, and three failures have already been recorded, which is not a hopeful start. Cairo, June 7. News comes from Madagascar that the Malagasy have successfully repulsed Jhe French advance on the capital. . Ottawa, June 8. The Canadian House of Commons, by a majority of 68, rejected the proposal to confer the franchise on women. Constantinople, June 9. Turkey has rejected the demands of the Great Powers with regard to reforms in Armenia in toto. The Sultan declares the reforms are unnecessary, and denies the right of the Powers to interfere, as nothing unusual occurred. Sydney, June 8. News has arrived that extensive railway sheds at Harden, on the Great Southern Railway, 228 miles from Sydney, are all on fire. Several engines are in the building, and the damages are certain to be heavy. Adelaide, June 8. The Lieut.-Governor has received a letter announcing the death of Major John Jervois, son of Sir Wm. Jervois, from an affection of the liver.
