Taranaki County Council.

The regular meeting of the Taranaki County Council was held on Monday. Present : —Messrs W. Bewiey (chairman), J. B. Connett, G. V. Tate, J. McCullum, Adlam, McGloin, Poters, Horrocks and Okey. NEW BRIDGE. -The Foreman of the Moa Riding drew attention to the necessity of attending to the bridge near Mr Turner's on the Junction Road. On Mr Peters' motion, it was decided that Mr Davies, engineer, he- instructed to prepare plans and specifications for a new bridge; such specifications to be in by the next meeting. MOA RIDING. The Moa Foreman's report was read and dealt with. Mr McCullum asked how the wheel tax was coming in from the Moa Riding. The Clerk replied that more was collected in the Moa Riding than in any of the other ridings. BRIDGE CARPENTERS. Some discussion took place on tho question of what amount should be paid to bridge carpenters. Mr Adlan favored ten shillings per day, and he moved —" That the resolution passed at the previous meeting fixing the remuneration at 9s berssciuded." Mr Okey seconded the proposition. He explained that in supporting Mr Adlam he did not think- that nine shillings was not sufficient, but he thought it was advisable not to bind the overseers to any fixed amount when employing men. The motion was put and negatived on the voices. ' REPORTT. The reports of the Foremen, of the Waitara, Omato.andParihaka Ridings were dealt with. METALLING ROAD. The Clerk of the Inglewood Town Board wrote asking the Council to metal the West side of the Mountain Road. The Chairraau stated that the matter had been dealt with at a committee meeting, and a letter sent, stating that the work would be done providing tho required metal was supplied free of charge as to'royalty. Other correspondence on the matter was read, and it was finally decided that tho tender of Mr Todd for carting at 2s lid per yard be accepted. OPUNAKE. The Opunake Town Board wrote re proposed levels, and asked if the Council would adopt the same. It was resolved, on Mr McGloin's motion, that the Council cannot comply with the request until the plans are submitted. ELTHAM ROAD CONTRACT. A letter was received from the settlers on the Eltham Road, asking that the balance available on the Eltham Road loan be expended in completing the gaps. The Clerk stated in reply to the Chairman, that there was about £9O available, but from this there was an amount to be deducted, which would leave the figures at £65 or less. Mr McGloin stated that it would be advisable to attend to the culverts. Mr Peters pointed out that the members must not vote any sum for repairs out of loan money. The question was finally left with the members of the Riding and overseer to arrange. DEPUTATIONS. Messrs Western and Old, members of the Waitara West Road, waited on the Council with* reference to deviation on Lepper Road. A rather lengthy discussion ensued, Mr Connett moved that the sum of £6 be voted to the Road B:ard towards defraying the cost of the deviation. Seconded by Mr Peters. Au amendment was moved by Mr Okey—•' That the overseer be instructed to inspect the deviation and report to the Council." Seconded by Mr Adlam. The amendment was lost, and the original motion carried. Mr Foote, of Fitzroy, also waited on the Council, and asked that the Council should level the embankment near the Fitzroy Hall, and also supply gravel to metal the entrance to the building.—Agreed to.—News.
