The Mackenzie Company.
The concert given by the Mackenzie Company (who are to appear in the Town Hall, Opunake, this evening) was well patronised at Hawera on Wednesday night, the hall being nearly filled. The chief interest centered in the singing of Mr Mackenzie, who has on past occasions made himself a favourite in Hawera by his excellent items wgta~ « The Raft?'" " The Bugler," " Off to Philadelphia," " Kate .Dalrymple," " The Cameron Men," " Hame cam' our guid man," " Come under my pladie," " A Friar of Orders Grey," &c. Needless to say, all, were sung in capital style. Mr Mackenzie prefaced his songs by an explanation of the meaning of the words. He also gave a few Irish and Scotch anecdotes of a most amusing nature in first-class style. Migs Nellie Grffiths gave the rainbow dance and a seriocomic song and dance. Miss Ethel Grant and Mrs E. A. Labbatt sang a duet, and the latter gave very nicely the popular song " Better Bide-a-wee." Mr Charles Silbon gave one or two feats, carrying a glass of water on his forehead, and also sang " Mrs 'Enry 'Awkins." The concert was brought to a close by the singing of " Auld Lang Syne " by the Company, the audience joining in the chorus.— Star. __^___
