: jjj (Ook Own Correspondent. ) The meeting of householders on Monday night for the election of a ichool committee was not very largely attended, only about nine or ten householders being present. As eight nominations were received a poll was taken with the result that the following gentlemen were elected as a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs Watson, Parkes,. Brooker, Kappley, Burke, Manning and Korte. The Committee met immediately after being elected, and appointed Mr Watson chairman.
Tile Easter gale did not do us much damage here. The orchards have come off'badly, the foliage having been blackened by the spray that swept in from the sea. The weather at present is not all that could be desired, and While I write the rain is falling in torrent outside.
That portion of the Auroa Road which lies north of the Eltham Boad was at on 6 time the terror of travellers who rode up itduring winter. Now if is one»oi;„ the- best roads about, having settled doWETbeautifully hard and firm." The blinding, that has been laid over the broken boulders is of excellent quality, and has set like cement, making the road in this respect a better one thin*the Eltham Boad. The loan for metalling the Oeo Boad was carried last Saturday, and I believe that work is to be proceeded with at once.
