Report. .Hawera, April 17. We held our usual fortnightly sale at Stratford on Thursday, 11th inst—a , day earlier than usual on account of .the 12th being Good Friday. The yards were well filled with stock, the bulk of which consisted of young cattle. The attendance was large, and bidding ' at-the commencement of the sale was ~; fairly brisk, but did not continue so * Throughout. We quote—l B-months to 2-year A steers 35s to 435, yearlings mixed sexes, j2ss to 29s 6d, fat cows, £4 2s 6d to £4
11s, dairy cows and heifers, £3 7s 6d, 2-year heifers-, 40s to 52s Gd, , weaners, 9s 6d to 16s. , Op Wednesday, 17th inst., we held our upnal fortnightly sale at the Glover ‘ yards, Hawera, when more stock than . advertised came forward, the majority being of good quality . Some of the fat .bollocks were exceptionally heavy and prime. - The. attendance was much smaller than usual. Bidding for fat and forward cattle was keen, but for all other classes very dull. This we attribute to the severe blizzard which raged on Sunday and Monday last, one - of the results of which is that all the . grass in the open has been completely cut off.
, We quote—Fafc bullocks, £5 12s to £7, forward bullocks, £4 15s to £5 ss, 18-months to 2-year steers, 42s to 495, fat cows, £8 16s to £4 4s 6d. Hr Newton King's Weekly Report. New Plymouth, April 18. Cattle—At: Stratford on Tuesday, owing to the rough weather, there was a small muster of stock and limited attendance, with few buyers. Bidding was consequently very quiet, and most lines were passed in, though a fair proportion were ultimately placed at satisfactory prices. Good calves made 265, yearlings, 85s to 87s, 15-month steers, 40s, heifers forward in calf 455, store cows, 45s 6d to 545.
At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was again a small muster, the prevailing low prices having a marked effect on the number of cattle coming forward. There was a good number of buyers, however, and nearly everything was sold at the hammer at about ruling rates. Weedy calves made ss, weaners, lls 6d to 19s 6d, 18-month heifers 355, 18-months to 2-year do., 46s 6d to 48s, forward do., £3 4s, 18-months mixed, £2 Is, springing cows, £8 10s to £4 15s, fat do., £3 10s, stores, do., 27s to 54s full mouth ewes, 4s, shorn lambs, 3s 4d.

„v ■ held a large sale of stock at Waverley, and .succeeded in placing nearly the whole of the entries. The wet weather and Easter holidays prevented large entries coming forward at • Wanganui to-day. We sold nearly all the sheep, but did not dispose of the cattle. Pigs were at lower values. Cattle—At Waverley; Fat cows, £4 4e to £4 7s, old cows and calves, 555, steers, £4 12s 6d, heifers, £3, milch cows, £5 to £5 la 6d, yearlings, 80s ' 'to 84s weaners, 12s to 16s. At Wanganui—Fat cows, £4 13s. Sheep—At 'Waverley: Two-tooth ewes, 7s, fat ewes, ss. 6d to 6s Bd, fat wethers, 8s 9di stores, 7s to la 3d, other ewes, 3s 9d>-old culls, Is to Is 6d. At Wan..ganui—Fat wethers, 9s 4d, fat ewes, 6s to 7s, store weathers, 6s 2d, ewes, 8s 6d, 2-tooth ewes, 9s. Pigs—Breeding sows,-20s to 25, porkers, 13s 6d, small pigs 2s. Christchurch Markets. Best ox beef made from 17s to 20s, cow and heifer do., 14s to 18s. Heifers, £4 to £6 ss, cows near calving to ££>, 7b 6d. Pigs—Baconers 18s to 38s, porkers from 15s to 235, or an average for . both classes of 3d per lb. Fat wethers from 8s 6d to 12s 4d, mixed sexes, 7s 6d, to 10s 9d, crossbred ewes, 4s to 8s 6d, a few .pxtra good making up to 11s, merino wethers 5s 6d to 84. Store sheep— Another large entry, principally crossbred lambs and two-tooth crossbreds ; very little, if any, alteration on last week’s prices. Buokland and Son’s Report. Auckland, April 18. At Eemuera, on Thursday, dairy cattle at profit brought from £5 to £7 2s 6d each, young dairy cows from £2 Is to £2 10s, old cows, 8s to 10s, weaned calves from 8s to £1 Is, young calves, 8s to ss, fat calves, 8s to £1 6s, fat cattle, 17s 6d to 19s the lOOlbs. Fat wethers ranged from 8s 6d to 11s 9d, ewes, 8s to 8s 9d, lambs,' 6s 3d to 7s. Heavy pigs brought from £1 10s to £2 7s each, porkers, £1 to £1 6s, young pigs, 5s 6d.
