KAPONGA
—, » (Oub Own Cobbespondent.) The first of a series of conceits to be given to augment the funds of the Town Hall came off last Tuesday and was a decided success. Every item was well rendered and special mention must be made of Mr Priest's songs and recitatious, also the duet by Mr aud Mrs Wilson. Mr Coxhead occupied the chair, and explained the position of the funds as follows :- The settlers bad subscribed £B4 and the contract had been let for £145, so there waa a deficiency at present, but he hoped by the concerts to wipe that off, especially if they, were patronised as this one was. He took the opportunity to thank one and all and trusted the entertaining committee would always be able to give them value for their money. He then called for the first item, and so Kapongaites had presented to them one of the best concerts ever held here. Mr H. Melville has returned from Coolgardie " a sadder but wiser man." The weather broke up on Wednesday and will seriously delay all earthwork and metalling contracts.
The contractors for the additions to the School are just about finished but if the population continues to increase as it has for- this last 12 months we shall want another addition before another year has passed away.
