RAHOTU.
(Our own Correspondent.) Fine weather has helped the contractors along considerably on the liahui Road metalling works during the last week or two. One or two of the contractors expect to finish in a few days. On Sunday Paribaka was cn fete ; the village being visited by a large number of Pakehas from all over the district. The chief features of the day were the haka and the poi. The men dancing the haka were clad in mats around their loins. They kept very good time in the various movements, and they were evidently not troubled much by any lung complaint, as the yells were sometimes positively bloodcurdling ; while the facial contortions by some were fearful to behold. Truly the affair was a howling success.” This is rather an unusual season of the year for geese to be laying, is it not? But I'am told that a goose belonging to Mr Billing is now on a setting of ten eggs, while -another is laying. Seems to me they must be geeese to be at that game in the month of March. March 18th.
