New Track up Mount Egmont.

It is a well known fact that Mount Egmont presents a steep and difficult surface to climbers on the Opunako and Eahotu side, but last Saturday a party from Pihama ascended the giant from the upper end of the Kid Road. They say that the track is an excellent one, and that if a path were cut through the bush and scrub they are under the impression that the new track is as good or better than Dawson’s from Kaponga. Now, here is a chance for Opunake which it should not lose. We know of some people about the town who long to climb the mountain, but Dawson’s track is too far away for all save people who have a holiday to put in. The bush at the top of the Kiri Road is, we know from experience, very picturesque and of light quality. A track could be easily cut, and we are informed by one of the gentlemen aforesaid that the mountain scenery about this part is very beautiful, besides which in climbing a good view of Lake Dive is obtained. Now, herp is an opportunity which Opunake should net miss, and as the climbing season is yet in its prime, a party should be raised and a track cut without delay.
