President Kruger has presented the Pope with a diamond weighing 970 carats, said to have no equal in the world. [lf the figures are correct, this diamond is by far the biggest in the world. The great Russian diamond (sold to Count Orloff for £104,166, and now in the Russian sceptre) weighs 193 carats. The original weight of the goh(nQor was nearly 800 carats, but by unskilful cutting it was reduced to 279 carats, and ultimately to 102 J. The Star of the South, found in Rraail in 1855, weighed g§4J carats, half of which was lost in cutting.—Post. l
