Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. Cattle. —At Rahotu, on Tuesday, there was a smaller muster than usual, only about 200 head being ■yarded. There was a fair attendance, but the sale was the quietest held for some time, the prices offered being in most cases much below vendors’ reserves. Calves made 22s ; yearlings, 28s; fat cows, £8 4s ; good springing cows, £5 Is. Messrs Gorton & Son’s Stock Report. Bulls, February 13. Since our last report, a fortnight ago, we have .held several stock sales, at Sanson, Waituna, and Balls, though in all cases the prices were low. The bidding was more brisk at Waituna than elsewhere by far the greater portion of the business being done under the hammer, and nearly every thing was sold. A good deal of the stock, however, which was advertised did not come forward on account of the weather.
Our Ram Fair at Feilding was conducted in a fairly heavy rain from start to finish, and, under the circumstances, considering the low prices rams are bringing this year, we did very well to sell 153, and chiefly under the hammer. The Feilding horse sale was no brisker. We sold all Dr Bennett’s horses, and a few other useful horses, but there was no demand for the exceptionally good draught horses offered on behalf of Messrs Hocken Bros. Yesterday’s sale here was the dullest of all, the prices being lower for sheep than we have ever known. Certainly the quality was by far the worst we have ever seen at our February sales here. We sold 100 head of cattle at fairly good prices, being all that Were yarded excepting 10. We sold 300 t) out of 7000 sheep, and 52 rams, and the total of the sale for sheep, to give an idea of the present sate of the sheep market, did not reach one-third of what a similar quantity would have brought three years ago. In the quotations now given we are only quoting yesterday’s sale, as the papers have published the others : Cattle. mixed, £2 12s 6d to £2 13s; 18month steers, £2 2s; yearlings and 18-month mixed, 34s 6d; weaners, 30s, Sheep. —Lambs, Is 7d to 2s lOd; for mixed sheep, 5s 3d ; woolly lambs, 4s 3d, forward ewes, various prices from Is to 3s ; Lincoln rams, 1 to guineas ; old rams, ss. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report. Auckland, February 14. Hoeses. —The demand was not so brisk as in the previous week, but a good mauy changed hands at barely the previous week’s values. Bidding on Friday at the Durham yards was steady, and an average number was disposed of. We quote—Hacks from £4 to £9 ss; light harness, £5 to £l2 10s; medium draught, £6 2s 6.1 to, £l4 10s; heavy draught, £9 to £l7 10s. Cattle were in sufficient numbers for requirement, and were in steady demand; if there was any alteration in values, it was in favor of purchasers. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, beef ranged from 19s to 20s the 1001 b ; dairy cows from £8 to £7. The Pukekohe yards, on Wednesday, were well filled. Store stock was in brisk demand at fully Newmarket values, and almost all without exception changed hands. Some averages of fat steers were £8 5s sd, £7 4s 4d, £7, £6 16s 6d, £8 5s ; cows, £5 2s 6d, £5, £4 15s lid. Sheep have been rather in excess of requirements, but there was steady competition. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, wethers sold from 10s to 14s 6d each; ewes, 6s to 10s 3d; mixed sexes, 7s 3d to 9s 3d; lambs, 8s 3d. to 10s. Pigs. —Not many yarded, but- of good quality. Porkers sold from 20s to 32s 6d each. -Ou? Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.’s Stock Report. Johnsonville, February 14. Our yards were well filled with useful cattle, and the sheep peps were quite full.
