Cricket.
HAWERA STAR v. OPUNAKE. The above match was played on SatuuUy on the local ground, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 37 runs on the first innings. It was expected that Opm.-ake would have had their full team, but when it came to time of play there were several away. Gpunnke won the toss and sent the Stars to the wickets. Elliott (23), Warden (18), and T. Campbell (11) were the principal scorers, and their innings closed for 78. The local men followed, and with the exception of four returned from the wickets without "breakingtheirduek." Hill and Poole (12 and 24 respectively) were the only two who made a stand. The innings closed for 41. The visitors in their second innings made 146, Collins (15), Wakeliu (11), McCarthy (57),"Warden (15), and L. Campbell (11) being the highest scorers. After the match the teams partook of a sumptuous tea provided gratuitously by Mrs Kennedy. The following are the scores:—
