Mr Newton King's Weekly Report. New Plymouth, January 31. At Stoney River on Wednesday the yards were well filled, but demand was not brisk, good strong calves being in most demand, and most of this class sold at fair prices. Calves made 15s to 295; yearlings, 88s to 40s; store cows, 30s to 50s; fat do., £4 10s; cows and calves, £3 15s*; bulls, £1 to £2 ss. Produce.—l shall be glad to receive samples of cocksfoot as soon as it is ready. Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co. 8 Stock Report. On the 21st inst we held a clearing sale on account of Mr J. A. Goodson. There was a good attendance and fair bidding. Lambs in wool sold at 4s 3d ; 6-tooth ewes, from 6s lid to 7s Id; rams, from 10s 6d to 255; yearling steers, £2 2s ; hacks, from £5 to £ls 10s ; thorough-bred horse Captor, £3O; dogcart, £2B 10a. At Opunake, on 22nd inst., there was a large muster of cattle, most of which were disposed of. Our usual sale at Kakaramea was held on the 24th. Considerably more stock than advertised came forward the majority of which were sold. At Eltham, on 28th inst., there was a large entry but a dull sale followed. At Hawera, on 31st, the quantity of cattle expected came forward, but sheep-buyers were much disappointed owing to a line of 3200 (which were coming from Toko) not arriving in time for sale. Cattle were not well competed for, yet we succeeded in disposing of most lines. At Kakaramea: Yearlings, 34s to 40s; cows, £2 16s to £2 17s 6d; weaners, 17s to 21s; springing heifers, £4 5s to £4 17s 6d. At Eltham : Fat cows, lights weights £8 18s to £4 ; heavy weights, £4 7s 6d to £4 15s ; calves, 15s; weaners, 21s to|[27s; yearlings, 31s 6d to 38s ; store cows, £2 16s to £3; springers, £4 to £4 15s. At Hawera; 21- to 8-year bullocks, £8 16s to £4 ; yearliug to 18-month steers, £2 8s to £2 7s ; 2-year steers, £2 15s to £2 17s 6d ; cows and calves, £3 10s to £8 17s 6d ; weaners, 22s 6d to 28s 6d ; store cows, £2 15s to £2 17s 6d; springers, £4 15s to £5 ; springing heifers, £8 15s to £4 10s. Sheep: At Kakaramea: Cull lambs 2s 6d; hoggets, 5s Bd. At Hawera: 6-tooth ewes, 5s Bd. We hold a special sale of sheep in Hawera yards on Wednesday, 6th February. Buckland and Son's Report. Auckanld, February 1. At the monthly sale at Pukekohe, held on Monday last, weaned calves yarded numerously. Prices were easier, and mostly ranged from 18s to £1 5s each. Quiet cows, in moderate number, brought £3 to £5 10s each. At Ilemuera, on Thursday, dairy cows, yarded muneronsly, were in fair demand at late values. Store cattle of all classes sold freely, and kept late values. Calves, in short supply, were better worth. Fat cattle in full number (220 yarded) were slightly better worth than last sale. Steers ranged in price from 18s to £1; cows, from 16s to 18s the 1001 b. Sheep and lambs, yarded in less numbers .than usual, were at late values. Wethers ranged from 5s to 9s; ewes, 2s to 10s 6d ; lambs, 2s to 7s 6d. Pigs, offered in limited number, were without alteration in value from late markets. Porkers brought from 16s to 19d each. Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.'s Stock Report. Johnsonvillk, January 80. The cattle entered for the day's sale were of fairly good quality, the cows being prime. Sheep were in good supply. Store pigs were good saleable sorts, and sold at last sale prices. We quote : Cattle—Bullocks, £7 5s to £7 10s ; light bullocks, £5 153 to £7 ; cows, £5 7s 6d to £6 10s, equal to 18s per lOOlbs, and 17s for cows. Sheep—Wethers, 9s 6d ; ewes, 7s ; store ewes, 4s ; old ewes, Is 8d to 2s; fat lambs, 6.3 Id to 7s ; stores, 8s to ss. Pigs—Baconers, 82s to 85s ; porkers, 18s to 255; small pigs, lis to 16s. Christchurch Markets. The following is the New Zealand Loan and Mercautile Agency Company's report of the Addington market :—Fat catflo: Average supply and fair competition. Prime, 20s to 21s 1001 b ; beef. 17s to 18s 6d por 1001 b. Store cattle: 20 yarded, demand slack, and values slightly easier. Dairy cows met with good competition ; prices, £7 to £8 10s for best sorts. Fat lambs: A yarding of 1100; fair demand for those fit for export; others neglected, prime bringing 10s to lis 9d, inferior 8s to 8s 6d. Fat sheep : 4100 penned, competition slack all through, and values low. Prime crossbred wethers, lis to 12s 6d; do ewes, 7s to 10s 6d; merino wethers, 6s to Bs. Store sheep: 8700 yarded ; demand dull. Two-tooth crossbred lambs, 4s 6d to 6s for fair sorts. Pigs : Average entry : demand for baconers good at 3£d per lb ; stores dull of sale.
