Opunake Wharf.

A general meeting of shareholders is convened for Monday next in the Foresters' Hall, to consider the question of ways and meausfor re-ereccion of the jottv. It is urgently requested that all who can should attend, as the subject is of very great importance to every occupier of land in the district. The following circular has been sent to each shareholder:— The Government has finally decided that it will not rebuild the jetty or assist the Company to do so. It therefore rests with the settlers themselves what steps will now be taken in order to establish shipping facilities at this port. It is unnecessary to point Oat the immense advantage which the jetty was to the district. The directors ,sec no other means of again putting it in working order than for the settlers to make an • effort to subscribe the capital required to rebuild the part destroyed by the teredo, It is estimated to cost £IOOO to do the work with iron piles, which, in their opinion, is the only safe material to use after the past expel ience. As a number of shareholders have expressed their willingness to take up further shares in order that the work may be carried out as soon as possible, the attendance of every shareholder is requested at the above general meeting to discuss the proposal and decide on what course should be pursued. Previous to its collapse, it was clearly proved that it was becoming a payable concern, aud the directors are confident that if reerected it will handsomely repay, both directly and indirectly, investors in it.
