limiE AND FOREIGN. Perth, January 23. Information has come to hand that five natives have been murdered by whites at Mount Margaret. The accused men have confessed. A gold discovery has been made near Hannan some of the samples of stone beiug one third gold. Sydney, January 23. Hon Garrard, who has just returned from a flying visit to New Zealand, stated, iu the course of an interview that he was somewhat disappointed with the visit, The industrial system appeared to him to work fairly well, and thought it would do so if politicians would only leave it alone. He was sorry to say a number of the New Zealand Parliament seemed to be more of labor agents than some of the members of Australian Parliaments. It would be better also if Ministerial influence was not so marked. To him it appears that the effects of legislation fulfilled its contentions and equalised the comforts of life more. As the last cricket match between the Englishmen and Queensland was somewhat a fiasco, the New South Wales Cricket Association has agreed to comply with the request of the Queensland Association that the next match should be a combined team of New South Wales and Queensland cricketers. This has been done in order to infuss more interest in the game. Melbourne, January 23. The promoters of,the National Trust in connection with the meat export trade have formulated a scheme which is now beiug considered by the agricultural and pastoral societies throughout the country. They urge that the Government pass a bill to enable stockholders in the colony to form themselves into a trust to develop the meat export industry; that power be given to levy a rate on all stock ; and that the sum of £145,000 will provide ample funds to establish freeziug and storage works in Melbourne, Geelong, Warrnambool, and Portland, and any suitable places in country districts. This money to be provided as required by the issue of debentures at 5 per cent, interest guaranteed by the Government. In order to provide interest and repayment of debentures a tax of only two shillings per hundred sheep upon the thirteen millions would be necessary. This tax would bring, in a yearly income of £13,000 which would provide interest and "pay off the principal in fifteen years. A proportionate tax on cattle would probably yield £O,OOO which could be used in redeeming debentures or the purpose of assisting in opening up markets in various parts of the colonies.
