Hawera, January 19.

Ac Mr T. Keane’s clearing sale on the 14th inst., there was a good attend ance and spirited bidding for draught stock, which sold from £l6 5s to £26; cows from £5 10s to £7 17s 9d. Our usual fortnightly sale at Eltham was held on 14th inst. We had a good muster but enquiry was limited except for young and fresh condition cows. At Hawera, on 17th inst., a fair quantity of both sheep and cattle were yarded, but there was scarcely any competition for anything excepting young cows in good condition. The trotting stallion Judge Belden was disposed of to Mr J. Houston, of Waitara. We quote— At Eltham —Weancrs, 18s to 24s ; yearlings, 36s to £2 ; yearlings to 18month steers £2 to £2 8s 6d; 2-year steers, £2 12s 6d to £2 17s ; yearling heifers, 35s to 87s ; heifers, £2 12s 6d to £3 ; cows from £3 to £8 8s ; springers, £3 15s to £4 10s ; fat cows, £4 to £4 10s. At Hawera—Calves, 15a ; weaners, 18s to 25s Gd ; yearling steers, 37s 6d to £2 Is ; 2-year steers, £2 12s 6d to £2 16s; store cows, £2 17s to £8 ; fresh condition cows, £3 3s to £8 9s ; fat cows, £4. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report. Auckland, January 17. Horses—No marked change has been manifested in the market, about the usual number having been brought forward and disposed of. At the Durham Yards on Friday scarcely so many were submitted as on the previous week. For those'of a good stamp competition was good. We quote—Hacks at from £6 to £2O; light harness horses, £7 to £l4 17s 6d ; medium draught, £9 10* to £l3; heavy draught £ls to £22105. Hides—The demand was brisk. We quote—Ox 2£d to 4d ; steer 2d to 2jd ; cow, Ifd to 2fd; calfskins, 2fd to 2|d. Tallow—l6s to 17s 6d cwt. Cattle—The number brought forward was scarcely up to the average, but there was no advance in value except for prime fat steers, which sold _slightly in favor of the vendor. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, the pens were not nearly filled. Competition was steady throughout the sale. For fat steers, top sorts, 21s lOOlbs- was given ; cows 14s to 18s 1001 b. Sheep—A good, many were penned on Tuesday at Newmarket, and prices were slightly in- favor of the vendor. Wethers sold at from 10s to 14s 3d; ewes, 6s to 9s 9d; lambs, 3s 3d to 7s 9d. Pigs—A moderate number df porkers yarded sold at from 19s t0.28s each. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Limited. Fine Aust. qlts. 96s to 100 s per cwt The New Zealand Loan a Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received following cablegram from their London office, dated 15th inst:— Wool —The sales opened this day, prices ruling in buyers favor. The principal decline has been in medium and inferior greasy merino, which have declined Id per lb. The attendance of both Horae and foreign buyers is normal, but there is want ,of confidence in the bidding, and little demand. The total quantity available including wool held over from last series, is 800,000 bales, 44,000 bales of which have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct.
