Education Board.

Tbe Education Board met on Wednesday. Present; Miss Hey wood, Messrs Bauchope (chairman), Faull, Wade, Adlam, Ambury, Mackay, Hill, and Allsworth. EGMONT VILLAGE. Mrs Dewhirst "was appointed teacher of the Egmont Village School; theappointment to date from 28th inst. RESIGNATION. * The resignation of Miss F. Wood of her appointments as sewing mistress in theOmata, Oakura, Harford Road, and Frankley Road Schools was accepted ; the same to take effect on February 10th, FRESH APPLICATIONS. It was decided to call for fresh applications for the appointment of sewing mistress in the Rowan Road School, as recommended by the committee. DENOMINATIONAL SCHOOLS. A letter was received from the Catholic Archbishop and Bishops in the colony, asking that the Board authorise the inspection of private schools under their management in the district. Consideration was deferred until next meeting. WEST INFANTS’ SCHOOL. Consideration of the resolution passed by the Town School Committee re raising the standard in the West Infants’ School was also postponed. TARIKI ROAD SITE. A letter was received from the Tariki Road* School Committee re the school site.—The letter was referred to the chairman to arrange, and, if he thinks it necessary, to ascertain if the peg placed on the ground by Mr Skin* ner has been removed. SCHOOL ACCOMMODATION. - The Board decided to inform Mr Moore, in reply to his letter, that it veiy much regrets that it cannot see its way to provide school accomodation other thau that arranged for at Matau, and that the question of a school; at Puraugi will be considered as the population increases. It was further decided to inform the Provisional Committee of the Waitara School district that two acres of the school site will be sufficient to fell and clear at present. PALMER ROAD SCHOOL. The Palmer Road School will be reopened in the room kindly placed at their disposal of the Board by Captain Holden, and the Board resolved that the chairman be authorised to engage a temporay teacher for the school until such time as a permanent appointment is made ; the architect to furnish information as to blocks, wire, etc. CENTRAL SCHOOL. The report on the Central School was referred to a committee, consisting of tbe chairman, Messrs Mackay and Ambury, to examine and report at the next meeting. AN EXPLANATION. The Board accepted Mr Brierly’s explanation of his illegal entry on the education reserve at the Kabouri Bridge, but did not see its way to relieve him of paying the usual royalty on the amount of gravel he has taken from the pit. LEASE OF RESERVE. Mr Malone applied for a lease of Section 113, Block 2, Ngaire, for Mr P. H. Brierly. Resolved, “ That the Board does not let reserves privately, but when the Board ia prepared to deal with the section it will be advertised.” STANLEY ROAD SCHOOL. The position of the Stanley Road School on the school site was left with the architect and chairman of the local committee. NOTICE OF MOTION. Mr Allsworth gave notice to move, “ That to enable an approximate comparison to be rpade between school and school, district and district, inspectors be recommended to agree'among themselves as to the maximum value to be assigned to any subject, and to adopt a certain number to denote that maximum.” POSTPONED. Mr Mackay’s notice of motion re the establishment of a court of appeal for teachers was postponed. EXAMINATIONS. The motion brought forward by Mr Allsworth with reference to arithmetical examinations was carried. On Miss Heywood’s motion, certain amendments were made in the sewing regulation. —News.
