A New Book.

"THE PHILANTHROPIST," OR THE REMINISCENCES OF A BODY-SNATCHER.—By Chas. Rogers.

We have to acknowledge the receipt of a copy of the above book from the antbor. It is descriptive of the TaranaM district, and very spicily written, the author, Mr Chas. Rogers, who is so well and favorably known as the chief agent for the Government Life Insurance Department in this district, having succeeded in infusing into it the liveliness and raciness for which he is noted personally. He has a very intimate knowledge of the district and the people who live therein, and pourtrays many of its leading characters to the life. Many laughable incidents which came under the writer's notice—if, indeed, they did not originate with him—are given and told in a style purely his own. We anticipate there will be a big run on the book as a souvenir of the only Charles, the boss practical joker the district has seen. Nothing in the practical joke line was ever too much for him, if we except the instance as related by himself, when a billy lid was put under his saddle, resulting in his making the acquaintance of the metal on the road. We would advise all who enjoy a good laugh to invest a shilling and procure a copy, when, as the author says, the book will become your sole property.
