Complimentary Ball.
The complimentary farewell ball to Mra W. Middleton took place on Wednesday evening in the Town Hall. There was a very large assemblage, and the capacity of the ball was taxed to the utmost. The hall was very nicely decorated with flags and Chinese lanterns, and, being well lighted, presented a most pleasing effect. The catering, under Mr M. Pellew, was carried out in first-class style, the spread being laid out on the stage, and everything passed off very orderly. The floor was in splendid order, and contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the dancers. Messrs Harrison (violin) and Good (piano) supplied the music, and their playing and time were the subject of very favourable comment. The committee of ladies must be congratulated on the very successful result attending their efforts to make the ball a success. The large number of people from all parts of the districts testified the appreciation in which the guest of the evening was held, and such a hearty and cordial farewell will cause Mrs Middleton to remember with every pleasure her long residence in the district. The large number of beautiful ball dresses took everyone by surprise, and made it a very difficult task to select any one as outvieng the others. Miss 0. Tuke, who wore a very handsome white satin ball dress, we think, was generally accorded the honours of belie, Miss Prosser and Miss Stevenson also having many admirers. Dancing was kept up with vigor till i a.m.
