Ben More is a bay colt, 17 hands showing immense bone and substance. He is descended from famous Clydesdale sires and dams on both sides. WAR CRY is a graceful chestnut, full of life and activity. He possesses good jumping strains, being by Volunteer out of Lucy, the dam of Manaia (the Auckland hurdler), and Nganeko. Lucy by Master Rowe, out of an Australian thoroughbred mare by The Sluggard. Master Rowe (b) by Towton (a), out of Miss Rowe (b). Lucy was also a good performer in her time. Both of these sires are young, healthy, and free from all hereditary disease. Being by that sterling sire Puriri, who sired such winners as Foresters, Jenny, Escapade, Rufus, Corsair, Rob Roy, and a host of others, he should, if properly mated, be able to leave some very useful crosscountry horses, and his hacks from ordinary mares are hard to beat.
