AWATUNA.

(Our Own Correspondent.) Fruit in this district is looking better than it did a little whije back. Should tbe fine weather contiuue there should be a good crop. But there, it is fine while I am writing, but before it gets into print, perhaps even before it gets into the mail-bag, we might have tbe most outrageous weather imaginable, and people who read this by their firesides with the rain pouring down through the darkness in sheets outside, will wonder what your correspondent means by talking of " fine weather! " While workiug in the bush a lew days ago Mr B. Manning hurt his leg through the accidental falling of a jack upon it. The tees of the jack struck into the fleshy part of his leg below the knee, and being too blunt to cut through the trousers and drawers they carried these into tbe wound. The leg is healing very favorably now. Professor Litchwark delivers a free lecture on the training and educating of the horse in the Awatuna Hall next Thursday. It is to be hoped that there will be a good attendance. The lecture commences at 8 p.m. The wedding of Miss Limbrick and Mr Swadling was celebrated last week at the residence of the bride's brother in Awatuna. I wish the young couple all the joys of wedlock and prosperity in all their undertakings.

The Awatuna Hall Committee are arranging for a social some time next week. I understand that some of your Opunake performers will be present to take part, as well as some Kaponga representatives. The ladies will supply tbe eatables.
