MORE TOLLGATES IN THE PARIHAKA RIDING.

(to the editor.) Sir,—l beg to take the earliest opportunity of bringing before the settlers in and around Opunake a resolution passed by the Taranaki County Council—« That a tollgate be erected on the South Road for the purpose of rebuilding the Taungatara Bridge." I would suggest that the chairman of the Opunake Town Board convene a meeting as soon as possible to discuss the matter. I would strongly advise the settlers about Opunake to try all fair and legitimate means in their power to defeat this proposal. Failing in a legitimate way to prevent the erection of the gate, I would.be in favor of resisting it by physical force to the bitter end, and, i.e., I shall oppose it in the Council and out of it by all the means in my power.—l am, &c, T. McGloin, Rahotu, 4th Dec, 1894.
