A Bush Tragedy.
A murder has been committed near Emu Plains Station, twelve miles from Benalla. It appears that a rabbiter named Daniel Tough and -his two mates, George Glenn and Winters, were camped together, and Tougli killed Glenn with a tomahawk and threw his body into a lagoon. On being arrested, Tough admitted the crime, and explained that after breakfast he went away from the camp to try for a shot at game. On crossing the lagoon, about half a mile away, ho accidentally dropped his gun into the water, and ' returned to camp to ask Glenn to help him to recover it. Glenn assented, and they proceeded to the lagoon, Tough having in his possession a tomahawk. After repeated unsuccessful attempts to recover the gun, Tough returned to camp and took a glass of rum to fortify himself for diving, but on rejoining Glenn, who was at the time on a log crossing the lagoon, and feeling about in the water for the gun, a dispute arose between them. Glenn struck Tough in the face with his fist, and the latter retaliated by striking Glenn a blow on the head with the tomahawk, the victim falling dead into the lagoon.
