Education Board.

The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: —Miss Heywood, Messrs Bauchope (chairman), Fault, Wade, Adlam, Allsworth, Ambury, Hill, and Mackay. CENTRAL SCHOOL. The Clerk of tbe Town School Committee (Mr A. B. Fookes) wrote, forwarding the resolution passed by the committee recommending the appointment of Mr Mason to the vacancy at the Central School caused by the resignation of Miss Ainsworth. Resolved—“ That the Board see no reason to alter the arrangement of the teaching staff now in force in the Central School.” PROVISIONAL COMMITTEES. The Secretary was instructed to take the necessary steps for the election of provisional committees for the Palmer Road and Stanley Road School districts. RESIGNATIONS. The resignation of Mr E. R. Morgan, as teacher of the Hurford Road School, was accepted, to take effect when his services are required at Waihi; also Miss L. Hall’s resignation of her appointment as pupil teacher in the Waiongona School. SEWING TEACHER. Mrs G. Ferguson was appointed sewing teacher of the Pembroke Road School. A letter was received from Mr L. Morrison, Wellington, pointing out the advisability ofinstituting a school of art and technical classes in the Taranaki district, and applying for the position of instructor. The Board decided to acknowledge the letter, and to inform Mr Morrison that it is not in a position to deal with the question. ATTENDANCE. It was resolved that 10,000 copies of the resume of the School Attendance Act, 1894, prepared by the secretary,, be printed, and distributed among the parents of children by the teachers. CARDIFF ROAD SCHOOL. Mr Allsworth moved, and Mr Hill seconded —“ That the attention of the Cardiff Road Committee to be drawn to the inspector’s report on the school, and it be asked if it has any recommendation to make.” An amendment was moved by Mr Wade, and seconded by Mr Adlam—- “ That, considering the unsatisfactory report of the Cardiff Road School, the Board feel it would not be doing its duty if the teacher is not removed, but before taking action the Board desire to know if the committee has any recommendation to make.” The amendment was negatived, and the orignal motion carried. POSTPONED. Mr Mackay’s and Miss Heywood’s notices of motion, re establishing a court of appeal and sewing specimens respectively, were postponed.—News.
