Mr Newton King's Weekly Report.

New Plymouth, November 1. At Stratford, on Monday, the yards were well filled, though owing to the rain in the morning all lines entered did not come forward. There was a good attendance and from the commencement of the sale young cattle were well competed for, nearly every pen being quitted at the hammer at satisfactory prices. More big steers than usual were yarded, but this class met with little enquiry, and though most of them were sold after the sale prices were not equal to those ruling a few weeks ago. Not many dairy cattle came forward, but anything of good quality near calving made fair prices. Calves made 28s Gd to 87s 6d ; yearlings, £2 5s to £2 lis Gd ; 15 to 18month mixed, £2 14s Gd to £2 19s; 2 to 2vV-year steers, £8 4s to £3 12s Gd; 8-year do, £8 17s; yearling heifers, £2 9s Gd; 2-year do, £3 7s; 2* do, £3 13s to £3lss; springing do, £4 10s to £6 ; store cows, £2 10s to £8 5s Gd ; springers, £3 15s to £G 5s ; fat do, £4 to £4 5s ; working bullocks, £lB 10s per pair. London, October 2G. The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, shows the total reserve to be £38,122,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 6808. Three months' bills are discounted at $ per cent. New Zealand, 4 per cent inscribed stock, 106.

New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, is steady at 245. South Australian wheat, ex warehouse, is steadily quoted at 24s Gd. Victorian ditto, firm, 2-is. New Zealand frozen meat is unchanged. Lamb, first quality, 4fd per lb. The hemp market is flat, aud at auction no New Zealand hemp was sold. Danish butter, 114 s per cwt, the rise being due to the cold weather.
