(Ocr Own Correspondent.) Mr Mcßae his lost another valuable horse. The Manaia Orchestral Society have started under the superintendence of Mr Hulse. It is expected that there will be about a dozen instruments. The Town Board wore to have met on Wednesday night to strike a rate and estimate expenditure. As Messrs Mitroy and Benporath only attended the meeting lapsed. Mr Budge sent a letter stating his inability to attend. The least the other two members might have dene was to apologise for for their absence.
The Egmont (South) Forest Conservators hold their next meeting at Kaponga, on Friday, November 2nd, at 3 p.m., to raise funds to improve tracks and build accommodation house at Dawson’s Falls. The honorary secretary, Mr Hornby, has written to the Minister for Lands for a grant of TIOO towards the same purpose. This was in last January, but his letter has been ignored. So much for the Government. Verb sap.
Horse training is very much cn evidence just now, there being no less than 20 horses in preparation, and good fields are anticipated at Christmas. It is understood that Manaia and Oeo are endeavouring to amalgamate for the purpose of holding a meeting a little way from Manaia, ou the Main Road. Delegates from both clubs have been appointed to secure a course.
A Manaia fisherman landed a fine basket of 11 trout from the Ouri Stream, one of which went 31bs. Tiie Tennis Club will want some vigorous measure lo resuscitate it.
A local piscatorial Nimrod went out the other day—shot a frog ! There is to be a big procession of Oddfellows in full regalia through the town to the Domain on 9th November,
