RAHOTU.

(Our Own Correspondent.) A poll of the settlers on the Kahui East Road was taken on Saturday, October 6th, in connection with the proposal to raise a ban of £IBOO to form, metal, &c, the Kahui East Road. There were 34 names on the roll, representing 34 votes. Of these 26 were recorded, 25 being for and 1 against the proposal. As those who did not vote counted against, the loan was carried by a majority of 16 votes. The Road Board should push things forward, so that the contracts may be out in time to take every advantage of the dry weather. We have had something of a novelty up this way, in the shape of a whole week’s fine weather. The hush roads are in consequence suffering (?) from the effects of the sun and winds.

I hear that Mr Pelham, of Puniho, has leased the bakery adjoining Mr Harvey's grocery store. Ho intends to take up his residence in Rahotu and conduct the business.

Mr J. Harvey, shoemaker, at Pungaraehu, also contemplates removing to the store lately occupied as a residence by Mr Black. I notice that some of the native lease lands which were not taken up before are now open for selection. Now there are a number of sections iu this district which will be open, and yet no plans are sent to either the Rahotu or Pungarehu Post Offices. If a person wishes to tender for a section here, he has to go to Opunake on one side and Okato on the other, in order to see the plans aud find out any other particulars he may require. This seems to me to he a very curious arrangement, and one re quir-qg i xplanaU m.
