Periodical Change of Inspectors.

The Napier Daily Telegraph states: A large number of replies to the Taradale circular re periodical interchange , of inspectors were laid before the committee. Out of thirty-five committees, thirty-three are strongly in faVor of the reform proposed. Only one, the Tologa Bay committee, opposes the change, on the ground that it would not benefit the small country schools. Port Ahuriri does not support the proposal, thinking it a matter for the Education Boards to deal with, and not for the committees. Sydenham approves, but thinks the change should be biennial instead of annual. Feilding, Makotoku, Bir- ■ mingbam and Bulls approve a biennial change. Napier and Ngatimoti will heartily co-operate, having previously moved in the same direction. Takapau, Marton, Westport, Matamau, Lyttelton, East Taieri, Palmerston North, Bunnythorpe, Kaikora, Brighton, Sherry, Waipawa, Kapuni, and Parawasui thoroughly approved and desire to assist. Keefton, Egmont, Orepuki, West Plains, Waverly, will co-operate in any way suggested. Spring Grove agrees, provided that uniform text books be used throughout the schools of the colony. Newmarket thinks the circular does not go far enough; secretaries, “ the masters of the Boards,” should be included in the change proposed. Onehunga approves, and thinks that the inspectors should he under the central department, in order to secure a uniform system of examination. Grafton, Auckland, is in full sympathy, and will bring the matter before the next meeting of the “ chairmen of school committees,” a sort of con,s ference committee formed by the school committees of Auckland. Ngaire entirely agrees with the circular, but thinks it advisable to convene a meeting at Stratford of delegates from the various committees of Taranaki, in order to ensure a full discussion of the matter. New Plymouth approves, provided the mode of examination be uniform. and not varied to suit the ideas of different inspectors.
