The Public Trustee.

Wellington, September 12. Mr McGuire, in presenting a petition from Mr McCullura, late of Rahotu, with respect to the treatmennt that he Buffered at the hands of the Public Trustee, asked permission to have the petition read for the information of members. This reasonable request was opposed by the Government, whereupon Mr McGuire called for a division. After all the preliminaries for taking a division had been gone through with, the Government evidently thought discretion the better part of valor. On remembering the defeat suffered by them on a former occasion on a motion moved by the member for Egraont, t hey graciously allowed the petition to be read.—News.
