Taranaki Land Board.

-T|s Land Board met on Monday. Present:—That Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr J. Strauchon, in the chair), Messrs Heslop, Stock, and Roy, and Hon Mr Kelly, M.L.C. CAPITALISE AND FREEHOLD. The following applied to capitalise and acquire the freehold of deferred payment lands :—J. Judge, Sections 9, 10, 17, .18, 21, 25, 28, 31, 32, Block 8. Cape; same, Sections 11, 12, 19, 38, 39, 45, 48, 51, and 54, Block 8, Cape; T. E. Smith, Section 86, Block 10, Kaupokonui.—The applications were agreed to.—R. Dawn made application for the freehold of Section 9, B'oak 2, Opunake, he undertaking to effect the deficient improvements within the next nine months. It was decided that upon the necessary improvements being made, the Board will agree to the freehold title being obtained. TRANSFERS. The following applied to transfer D.P. lands:—C. Lewis to W. Lewis, Sections 20 and 21, Block 9, Kaupokonui.—Agreed to. MORTGAGE. Three applications to mortgage were agreed to. THIRDS. The Waimate Road Board applied for a certificate under section 131 of " The Land Act, 1892," to use the thirds accruing from certain sections in Blocks X and XIV, Kaupokonui, as interest on a loan of £3OO raised for the purpose of metalling part of the Mangawhero Road. The certificate was granted. EXTENSION. A. G. Turner applied for twelve months' extension of time to effect improvements on Section 9, Block 11, Upper Waitara, on the ground of ill health. The Board, under the circumstances of the case, allowed the applicant until December 31st in which to effect the improvements. APPROVAL. The Surveyor-General notified the approval of the Hon Minister for Land to the appointment of Mr A. Standish as solicitor to the Land Board. TAKEN POSSESSION. The Ranger reported having taken possession of the following sections: Section 12, Block XIV, Cape, value, 12s 6d per acre; Section 5, Block VIII, Huiroa, value, 17s 6d per acre. It was decided to notify the sections open for selection.

IMPROVED SETTLEMENT FARMS.

The Commissioner submitted and read a prospectus of the conditions for the formation and working of improved settlement farms in bush country, and also submitted a schedule and plan of 7 eec3 of 100 acres each laid off in Block XI, Mimi, which had been proposed by the Department to be brought under the above named conditions.—Mr Kelly moved, That the scheme for the formation of improved settlement farms in bush country be first tried on the township in Block 11, Upper Waitara.—The Board, however, considers, that it has no authority, under the Land Act, 1892, to deal with land in the terms of the Department's instructions of August 22, 1894. Seconded by Mr Heslop and carried.—Herald.
