♦— Mr W. D. Scott’s Stock Report. Opunake, September 3. On Friday last my Opunake yards were well filled, the chief demand being for dairy stock and young cattle. I succeeded in quitting a good number of lines at the following prices : Calves, 26s to 87s : yearlings, 88s to 47s 6d ; 15-month, mixed, £2 18s_ to £8 ; 2-year steers, £8 4s; springing heifers £4 10s to £5 15s ; dairy cows, £4 10s to £7 2s; store cows, £8; pigs, slips, 7s 6d. Trap and harness, £l2 12s 6d. At Awatuna, yesterday, owing to the rough weather on the previous day, the young stock advertised did not come forward. The entry was small, and all big cattle. Store cows made £2 5s to £3 ; dairy cows, £4 15s; backward cows, £3 5s to £3 10s; springing heifers, £4 12s 6d.

At the Haymarket, on Saturday, a good number of pigs were penned, and all sold at good prices. Slips, made 4s 6d to 8s 6d ; stores, 'lO s Cd to £1 2s calves, 4s to Bs. A few hacks changed hands at from £2 6s to £3 17s 6d. At the mart fowls made Is 2d to Is 9d ; Pekin ducks, 7s 6d ; potatoes, 2s 6d to 4s ; fowl wheat, 3s; sharps, 10s ; bacon, s£d ; hams, 6£d; cheese, 2id to td.
Cattle.—At Eahotu, on Wednesday, there was a good muster of stock. All young cattle were well competed for, and all sold at good prises. There was no demand for big steers, and two pens of these went home. The dairy cattle were mostly too backward, but a few fair quality heifers changed hands at satisfactory rates. I quote—Good calves, £l9s 6d to £ll7s 6d ; yearlings, £2 6s to £2 8s ; 15-month cattle, £2 lls ; springing heifers, £4 8s to £4 13s 6d ; ewes and lambs, 14s 3d. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report. Auckland, August 28. Horses.—lmproved demand for farm horses and heavy draughts at from £l2 to £lB 10s ; medium, £Blos to £ls 12s 6d ; light harness, £5 10s to £l2 10s ; hacks, £4 to £8 10s. Cattle, in moderata numbers ,were in good demand. Ox beef, from 21s to 23s lOOlbs; cow, 20s to 21s; dairy cows, in full number, sold from £8 15s to £6 17s 6d. Some averages of fat steers were £ll 8s 3d, £ll Is 7d, £lO 6s 9d, £9 8s 6d. £9 Is sd, £7 16s lOd, £7 5s 6d ; cows, £6 15s, £6 ss, £6 15s, £5 ss, £5. Sheep yarded in limited numbers. Wethers sold from lls 9d to 17s 9d ; ewes, 10s to 14s 6d ; spring lambs, 17s 6d. Pigs.—Scarce, sold at 3d lb live weight. Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co. s Stock Report. Haweka, August 31. At Eltham, on 28th inst., there was an unusually heavy muster of cattle, and keen enquiry for young stock and springers, just at profit. We had a fair entry at Hawera on 80th. Bidding was not very brisk, yet we succeeded in disposing of most lines. We quote— At Eltham—Yearling steers, £2 2s 6d to £2 7s; 2-year steers, £3 8s to £3 ss; calves, 18s to 17s; weaners, 80s to 355; 2-year heifers, £2 12s 6d to £8 ; 2-jear springers, £4 15s to £5 10s; springing cows, £5 5s to £6 10 ; store cows, £8 8s to £8 7s 6d; fat cows, £4. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report on the Addington cattle market as under:— There was a small supply of fat cattle, bidding being keen. Steers brought £8 to £l2; cows and heifers, £6 10s to £11; beef-making, up to 25s per 1001 b. Store cattle yarded, and there was a good demand. Yearlings made up to 455; 2-year-olds, to 72s 6s; 8-year steers, to £6. Store sheep—27oo yarded. There was a good enquiry. Hoggets, 9s to 12s; extra good, 14s Id ; 2-tooths, 12s to 14s. Fat sheep There was fair competition, prices being a trifle easier. Crossbred wethers, 15s to 18s 9d; crossbred ewes, 13s to 16s; merino wethers, 8s to 15s Bd. Pigs.—There were 270 penned.
