Owing to extra demands on our space to make room for advertisements a quantity of reading matter is shut out of this issue. Mr E. C. Middleton calls for tenders for falling bush. Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co, notify entries for their Opunake sale on Tuesday next. The proposal to borrow £660 for the Ihaia Road, on which a poll was taken on Tuesday last, was duly carried, ten voting for it and one against. Miss Lorimer, who was appointed assistant mistress for the Opunake School, has declined to take up the appointment. Fresh applications are called. We give a reminder of Mr W. D. Scott’s Awatuna sale which takes place on Monday next, for which additional entries appear in this issue. The Opunake Band of Hope will hold their monthly entertainment on Monday, September 10th, in tin Wesleyan Church, when a very full and varied programme will be given. We notice that the exodus has set in a „ain. Last month departures exceeded arrivals by about 400. When this happened under the Atkinson rale it was said to bo the result of bad laws and bad administration. What is it now ? The s.s. Aorere went north of the Cape yesterday evening for shelter. She was unable to get into Patea, and there being a soulli-vyegterly wind blowing she could not work Opunake. The Secretary of the Opunake Wl)4 vf P9mpany has received intimation from Mr Strauchon that the,report, plans, and estiimate of cost replacing jetty have been forwarded to the Surveyor-General.
