Taranaki Land Board.

The Laud Beard met on Monday. Present—The Commissioner of Crown Lands (in the chair), Messis Heslop, Stock, and Eoy. LAND SOLD. The following land was disposed of since last meeting :—Sections 5 and 7, Makaka, 3 roods, to J. McHarrie, cash, £l2; Section 11, Makaka, 1 rood, to A. McHarrie, cash, £5. TRANSFER. W. J. Dew applied to tian&fer deferred payment Section 20, Block 14, Cape, to H. Stouex. ' Agreed to. FREEHOLD. D. McCracken applied to obtain the freehold of deferred payment Section 8, Block 8, Kaupokonui. Agreed to. MORTGAGE. An application for permission to mortgage .was agreed to. STRATFORD. R. McQuay applied for a yearly lease of Sections 49, 50. and 51, Stratford. A yearly lease was granted at an annual rental of £1 10s, subject to the usual three months' notice. SURRENDER. G. Chapman, senior, applied to be allowed to surrender Section 15, Block 14, Upper Waitara, Milsom’s Special Settlement. Surrender accepted. RATES UNPAID. The Clifton County Council submitted a list of unpaid rates on lands held under lease from the Crown, with a request to obtain payment of same under Section 124 of “ The Land Act, 1892.” It was decided that notice be served upon J. B. Milsom and A. G. Turner to pay the rates demand by the Council. Consideration of the other cases was deferred. • TITLES. The Surveyor-General advised the Board that there does not appear to be any charge fixed by the Land Act for the transmission ot a title from a deceased lessee to his heirs, but that it is competent for the Governor to fix a fee by regulation. The Board decided to ask the Government to fix a fee by regulation. “ RESERVATION. The Surveyor-General wrote that the reservation of land in Block 2, Upper Waitara, is not so much for a township as for small sections—something on the lines of a village settlement. Mr Heslop gave notice to move to rescind the resolution of July 17th, with the view of offering the land for selection under the village settlement system of part 5 of “ The Land Act, 1892.”TIME ALLOWED. T. Julian appeared before the Board with regard toThe instalments overdue on Section 24, - Block 9, Cape, stating that when he obtained money from the Taranaki Council, which would not joe till about September 3rd, he would pay them. Applicant w T as allowed till September Bth. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence from the meeting was granted to the Hon. Mr Kelly, M.L.C. ranger’s report. The ranger reported on the inspection of GO sections in various districts, comprising an area of 325 acres firstclass and 15,064 acres second-class land. The improvements required were 518 acres cultivated, and further value of £3359. The improvements made are 5701 acres cultivated, valued at £11,402, while the other improvements, including buildings, fencing, gardens, &c., are valued at £2051 18s. One of the selectors is in total and two in partial default. It was decided that J. W. Foote, the selector of Section 12, Block 2, Upper Waitara, be notified that the ranger has reported unfavourable in regard to his compliance with the conditions of the Act under which he holds the section, and that he be requested to attend the meeting of the Board on September 3rd to give an explanation. RE-HEARING. James Bain lodged an application for a re-hearing of the forfeiture of Section 1, Block YIL, Mimi. Mr Heslop moved, That after clue consideration this Board resolves that it cannot entertain the application, nor in any way alter its former decision in this case. Seconded by Mr Stock and carried. "OCCIPANCV. It was decided that the ranger having reported that J. Vickery, selector of Section 8, Block 8, Waitara, was not occupying (he section for his own personal use and benefit, that he be requested to attend the next meeting of the Board on September 3rd, to give an explanation. ADOPTED. The ranger’s report was adopted, and S. Carleton, A. G. Turner, and W. Jones will be notified to explain why they have not complied with the conditions of the Act.—Herald.
