Cricket.

A meeting of those interested in the formation of a cricket club for the ensuing season was held on Saturday evening, when there was a good attendance. Major Take presided. The balance-sheet for the past year was read and adopted. It showed cash in hand 6s 2d, and outstanding subscriptions £3 15s. Against this there were liabilities amounting to £2 3s 4d. Mr Wagstaff represented Rahotu. After discussion, it was resolved to form a club by amalgamating the Rahotu and Opunake Clubs, such club to be called the “ Opunake United.” There would be practice grounds at each place, and practice matches could be played between both teams as usual, but for the purposes of offensive and defensive matches the team should be picked from both places. The following names were handed in as members: —Major Tuke, A. Good, H. Good, W. Good, Markham, J. W. Rogers, F. Reid, F. Des Forges, T. Martin, A. Wills, A. Chapman, H. Corbett, Stronach, W. C. Phillips, W. W. Middleton, T. Knowles, M. Simeon, H. H. Seccombe, J. Wagstaff, J. Stewart, Edmonds, Elgar, Clarke, R. Brennan, Armstrong, Martin, W. D. Scott, and M. J. Brennan. The subscription was fixed at 7s 6d, to be paid by September 30th. Colts to be admitted at ss. The following officers were then elected :—President M. J. Brennan : Vice-presidents, W. W. Middleton, F. P. Simeon, and T. Knowles ; Captain, J. Wagstaff; Vice-Captain, E. Edmunds ; Secretary and Treasurer, H. H. Seccombe; General Committee, A. Chapman, J. Stewart, Armstrong, Clark, and Elgar. It was resolved to join the Taranaki Cricket Association, and Mr Wagstaff was appointed delegate. The Club’s colours to be pink and while cap and belt and white flannels. Resolved that the Secretary cooperate with the Football Club in applying to the Domain Board for ground. , 3 A vote of thanks to the chair terminated a very enthusiastic meeting.
