♦— Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. Nkw Plymouth, August 2. Cattle.—At Stratford, on Tuesday, there was a good muster of cattle. Bidding was good for all nice lots and nearly everything changed hands at satisfactory prices. Heifers were very numerous and sold remarkably well. A very nice lot of 85 Shorthorns from Mr E. MacMillan were much admired, and sold at full rates. Some pens of store cows, and cows aud calves were passed in, this class at the moment being slack. Young steers and heifers were in good demand. Calves made 25s to 88s 6d ; yearlings, 85s to 47s ; 18-month to 2-year steers, €2 17s to £3 12s Od ; heifers, springing, £4 10s to £5 8s ; backward do., £8 10s to £4 5s ; cows, springing, to £6 10s ; 2}year steers, £4 Is. .At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a smaller muster than usual, the heavy .rain which prevailed during the eaiiy morning and the previous night preventing cattle coming forward. There was a small attendance, and bidding was slow throughout. Young

stock made fair prices, and nearly all sold at the hammer. Very little dairy stock came forward. Anything good sold well, but old cows were not in demand. Calves made 25s Od to 86a ; yearlings, 34s to 41s 6d ; 12 to 18 months mixed, £2 8s 6d ; 18-montha steers, £2 7s to £2 16s 6d; heifers, in calf, £2 13s 6d to £4 Is ; springing cows, £4 to £6 ; fresh condition empty cows, £3 13a ; fat bullocks, £6 Is. Potatoes are moving off more freely, circular heads being in most demand. , Stocks, however are fairly heavy, and prices are not likely to advance for some time at anyrate. At St. Hill-street we had a nice line of young cattle, the bidding for which was brisk. The sheep were all sold with the exception of two pens of old ewes. We thought prices for sheep were somewhat easier. Pigs were well competed for, and made full values. We quote : - Cattle.—At Waverley: Forward bullocks, £5 to £5 15s ; steers, £8 10s; yearlings, £1 15s 6d to £2 6s 6d; cows, 70s to £4 10s. J Cattle have been brought forward in still increasing numbers, and a steady demand has existed at the previous week’s values. At Newmarket on Tuesday the butchers’ pens were fairly well filled, and many of the cattle reflected credit on the grazier. Dairy and store stock in limited numbers. At Pukekohe, on Wednesday there was a good muster of dairy and store cattle, which were briskly competed for at the previous week’s quotations. Rough and insufficiently fatted steers sold s at from £1 to £1 Is the lOOlbs ; prime oxen, £1 3s ; cows, £1 lOOlbs ; steers ranging from £6 5s to'£l2 each. Sheep were penned in limited numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday, and were well competed for. Wethers at from 10s to 18s; ewes, 11s to 14s- 9d. Pigs.—Only weaners and porkers were yarded. Bidding was brisk up to 3d per lb live weight; prices ranged from 18s to £1 6s 6d ; weaners, 12a to 18s. Greymo uth -Stock Market. Gkeymouth, July 80. Fat Cattle—Although the supply was comparatively moderate (78 head), it was too many for the market, and twelve of Fox and O’Neil’s were left unsold. Mr W. J.. Coates’ nine (local) brought from £4 10s to £5 5s ; J. M’Gregor’s 86 bullocks (Wanganui) from £7 to £11; Fox and O’Neil (Wanganui) from £9 to £ll ss. Best beef to-day is worth from 27s 6d to 29s 6d per lOOlbs. Fat Sheep.—22o were yarded, and these were in excess of demand, 60 of Mr T. Craig’s being withdrawn unsold. Bruce’s crossbreds brought from 14s 6d to 16s ; J. M’Gregor’s 32,175; Paley’a 19, 13s; Russel’s 39, lls 8d to 12s 6d. Prime mutton to-day was worth from B£d to Bfd per lb.
